After a nearly five-year lapse, I visited Waffle Square, located on Harding Ave., shortly after the morning opening time of 0700. I came in for the current weekday special, which is "Steak and Eggs" for $6.99. I'm a lover of breakfast, and I rarely resist a bargain.
As you walk in the restaurant, there is a small souvenir area, complete with a machine with a claw that will allow you to grab a stuffed animal, as you feed the beast with quarters. That's not my "thing," as I prefer to eat, rather than to play. As I walked through the souvenir area, I was greeted by Leanne, who would be my hostess, on this early Tuesday morning.
I was the first customer of the day, and for the first half hour, I had the dining room all to myself. The dining room is squeaky clean, spacious and comfortable. There appears to have been some renovation since my last visit. The decor matches the cuisine the restaurant serves, as both are pure "Americana."
I took a peek at the breakfast menu, mostly out of curiosity, as I knew what I wanted. I placed my order and my breakfast arrived in around 15 minutes, with a smile.
The only "oddity" about this fine breakfast is that toast isn't included, but is available for on additional dollar, which isn't a bad deal. I decided to "pass" on toast, and just enjoy the breakfast, as advertised.
The main attraction is a small steak, I guess about 4-ounces, cooked any way you choose. You also get your choice of hash browns, or country potatoes, and two eggs, cooked any style. It's definitely a "basic" breakfast, but so is the price.
My steak arrived medium, just the way I ordered it, and it was tender, juicy and flavorful. I'm always tempted to add a little sauce on my steak, only at breakfast, but this steak didn't need any enhancements, as it was great just by itself.
I agonized between country or hash brown potatoes, and hash browns won. They were cooked golden crispy on the outside, and chewy tender inside, just the way I like them. The hash browns were neither salty or greasy, which is a HUGE bonus.
As per my de facto standard, I ordered my eggs fried over easy, and they arrived, perfectly cooked the way I ordered them. I always judge the skill of a breakfast chef by the "eggs over easy method," as too many chefs haven't mastered the art of cooking eggs in this style. The chef at Waffle Square "nailed" the eggs!
My breakfast was delicious, and perfectly cooked, and tasted even better, thanks to Leanne's friendly service.
When you're in the mood for a great breakfast, and you don't want to break the bank, stop by Waffle Square and enjoy the weekday special of steak and eggs! Say "hello" to friendly Leanne... -

The server was very friendly. She was attentive and sweet. The food came quick. Large portions and delicious. Giving four stars because it was a little warm in the building. We will return

I have been eating here for a few years. Great breakfast deals of Steak and eggs with hash browns. They now charge extra $.99 cents for toast.

Their food is good. Steak and eggs with hash browns for $6.99. Hamburger, fries and root beer float $6.99. You can't beat that!!
